SMART and Greggs community litter pick – Wednesday 2nd May

We’re pleased to announce that staff from Greggs the Bakers will be joining members of SMART for a community litter pick around Bearwood on Wednesday 2nd May.  The litter pick will start at 12pm outside the Bakers’ Oven shop (opposite Iceland).

The litter pick will be targeting some of the side roads off Bearwood High Street (such as St Mary’s, Sherwood, Anderson, Poplar, Adkins Lane) and is expected to last somewhere between 60-90 minutes.

Sandwell council have kindly agreed to supply and clear the waste bags as part of their “Big Spring Clean”, and we may also have some volunteers from the local schools.  Last but not least, Richard Marshall and Team Bearwood will be providing the litter pickers and high-vis  vests – all in all a real community venture.

We’re looking for more volunteers for event, so if you can spare an hour or so on Wednesday it really would be appreciated. If you’d like to participate let us know either on the comments below, or on the Bearwood Facebook page, or feel free to turn up on the day.

January 2012 SMART meeting and June minutes

The next meeting will be at St Mary’s Church Hall on Wednesday 18th January at 6pm.  As we’ve not met formally for a while we’ll be reflecting on the progress made in 2011, catching up on current Bearwood news and issues, and inviting ideas for the 2012 agenda.

The minutes from the last meeting in June last year are attached below – many thanks again to all who came along and contributed, and apologies for not getting them on line sooner.

As ever we are always looking for new voices to contribute to the discussion, both from ours and neighbouring streets,  so please come along if you want to express your point of view, catch up on what’s going on locally, or even if you just want to meet a few of your neighbours.

SMART minutes 22-06-2011

Major traffic disruption affecting Bearwood

You have probably noticed already that South Staffs Water have now commenced their work to replace water pipes under Bearwood Road, with a one-way system currently in operation on a section of Bearwood Road commencing from the junction with Three Shire Oaks Road.

The work is to be completed in three phases over a five month period, with significant disruption to traffic a likely result of the proposed diversions and road closures.  Full details can be found on the Bearwood blog on the following link:

Of particular interest to residents of St Mary’s Road is phase 3 of the works, which is scheduled to commence in October of this year.  St Mary’s is proposed as the main diversionary route during the closure of Three Shire Oaks road, which is likely to aggravate some of the existing concerns that have already been raised at our previous meetings regarding issues with traffic, parking, and existing bus services.

The next opportunity to voice these concerns will be at the next Neighbourhood Forum, which is due to take place at St Mary’s Church Hall on Wednesday 8th June at 6pm.  SMART will be making representations to Centro and the parking company employed by Sandwell Council at this meeting – an update on responses to the issues raised will be posted on this site following the meeting.

June SMART meeting and April minutes
